What Is an IP Rating? #
IP (Ingress Protection) ratings consist of two numbers:
- First digit: Protection against solid objects (e.g. dust)
- Second digit: Protection against liquids (e.g. water, rain, spray)

- IP55: Protected from limited dust ingress and low-pressure water jets
- IP65: Fully dust-tight and resistant to water jets
- IP66: Fully dust-tight and protected from heavy seas or powerful jets
Choosing the Right Rating #
- IP55: Light industrial use or sheltered locations
- IP65: Suitable for most outdoor installations
